Children's Party

On the 22nd December, 2008 at 16.00hrs, the doors to the Crescent Suite at the Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort & SPA were opened up to welcome a group of 40 overwhelmed children residing at the Crèches of Valletta, Sliema and Tarxien, who had been invited to attend a Christmas Party especially organised to put a smile on the faces of these less-fortunate children, during a time were most of us under normal circumstances are surrounded by good food and wine, expensive presents and most of all, those dear to us.

The four-hour party consisted of numerous activities namely a magician, an illusionist, various local teen singers like Klinsmann and Kayliegh to name a few; face painting, games and most of all the intensely anticipated Santa Claus with his sack full of presents.  It brought a wave of emotions to all the adults present during this party as they witnessed the sparkle in these little angels’ eyes and the smile stretched from ear-to-ear when Santa Claus called out their names and they were each given a present to take ‘home’.

The party was also complemented with lots of food and drinks, colourful balloons and Christmas decorations that filled the air with joy the Festive Season brings to all of us.   Adrian Delia who works as a Receptionist at Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort & SPA is the mastermind behind this event.  He has been organising similar events during Christmastime for the past seven years.  This year, however, it was decided that the party would take on a much larger scale with more than the double amount of children being invited.

This however meant a lot of hard work prior to the big day.  One has to take into account the fund-raising aspect, the decorations of the hall, the purchasing and wrapping of the presents and most of all the organising of a fun-packed event full of entertainment and activities that was enjoyed by the children, their carers and the nuns alike.  In order to make it extra-special this year, we made sure the nuns themselves did not leave empty-handed.  Thanks to the generosity of numerous donations and contributors, every Crèche left with 250€ worth of groceries, a gas heater and also a special present was donated to each Home namely a brand-new computer, a washing machine and parquet flooring for one of the Chapels.

At 20.0hrs the mini-vans arrived, the children were walked up to the main lobby – presents and goody-bags in tow – and waved good-bye.  It was a truly memorable experience to be part of such a generous act.  Christmas was only 3 days away but the joy, peace and unity had already filled our hearts and souls as we headed back to the Crescent Suite to start the cleaning up, with big grins on our faces and happiness one can only feel when giving from the heart.
